Does anybody know of anywhere or anybody that could collect old scrap farm machinery from our farm.
We have some old (useless) dung spreaders, loaders, ploughs, feeders etc lying about the place and would like to get rid of them as they are an eyesore.

I don't know of anybody around providing this service. Some of it is quite bulky so if you know anybody please let me know

    Thanks all!

depends where you are located, Galway Metal in Oranmore might collect if the load is large enough. I know of a scrap dealer in Riverstown in Offaly who collects scrap metal, not sure if i have his number

I know a guy near Roscrea outside Tipperary who'll collect and dispose of it

Scrap prices are on the up again so the "How'rya Boss" types are mad looking for it but I wouldnt be gone on having any joe soap in around the place so I think you should contact an authorised scrap collector , like Cork metal Co. or Limerick Metals (depends where you are obviously!)

They will send a truck with a crane to take it away and pay you around €60-70 a tonne at the moment.
Have a look at golden pages for your nearest collector

Thats a robbery. I was getting €150 a tonne last summer from Wards in Mountmellick (Laois). I brought it myself in a trailer. The guy I'm talking about is a farmer who collects scrap in his spare time to earn a few extra quid.

Thanks lads. I'm actually based in Meath. I'm sure some guys will take it away for nothing but if I could make a few quid out of it at the same time, it would be great. I think there's too much of it though to take away in a trailer so I reckon a lorry and crane job to come to me would be the best job.

Try get a few quid for it anyway. No point giving the stuff away!!

"Thats a robbery. I was getting €150 a tonne last summer from Wards in Mountmellick "

The reason the price is low is because of global demand scrap is traded like a commodity, depending on demand, the price for scrap fell from €140-160 a tonne last august -september to zero overnight, demand from the steel industry is just coming back now so price will probably increase eventually

Will do. As I said earlier, I'm in Meath. Now be warned, there's not much 'antiques', just a lifetimes collection of machinery that broke / welded and broke again and couldn't be fixed anymore.

    welded/welded/welded/welded/welded/welded and finally broken.

Haha so true.:D:D and don't forget beaten with a sledgehammer and cut up to fix some other machine!

I know of that Conaty fella but I think he only takes stuff that is nearly working and not some of the rubbish I have! A guy emailed me last night saying he will come down and collect all the scrap and pay me €45/tonne.
Another guy left a voice mail but I couldnt understand him. Might be one of those 'hiace guys' as mentioned earlier!

I didnt have time to take any pics last night, was struggling to get the hay made before the rain. Will hopefully get some this eve. There is 2 trailers, good chasis but the body is in bits.

I'll have another couple of numbers to ring but when I get the best price, I'll let you all know!

A guy rang me there from Castleblayney. He will come with a crane and collect it for €70/tonne.
He won't take the tyres though so we have to take them off first.

Quick question - what is the best way to get rid of old scrap wheels, that is rims and tyres still on them. I asked a scrap merchant before and they said that i would have to take off the tyres first. Is this what people normally do?
