Car advertised on internet - strange call

    Hi,

I have a car advertised on the internet, ad just published today. I got a call within 2 hrs from a funny looking number (was an Irish woman) asking me whether the car was still for sale. As it looked like a foreign number (+357..) I asked where she was calling from - she said they were a company which tried to match buyers with sellers. She asked me to confirm we are selling for X euros, which I did, then the phone went dead.

Seems fishy to me. Anyone know what this is about, or are there companies out there searching the internet on behalf of buyers ? Seems a strange way to do business (putting phone down)...could this be a scam ?

How does it operate ? Should I refuse to take any more phone calls from them ?

They will tell you they have a queue of people looking to buy your car, and it only costs you €100 or so. Just ignore the call, or think of inventive ways to waste their time.

You'll only get one call. They check everyday which cars were put up for sale on carzone and the likes the day before. Then they call you trying to get you to pay them to pass on customer details to you. Total scam.

I don't think so - they're the ones being hit as they're making the overseas call.

That's the one - they called again this afternoon, probably to tell me they had a buyer and told the guy to sling his hook.
