Ok, I sold a van about six weeks ago and sent off the logbook along with another logbook. One of the logbooks arrived a few weeks later but I got a phonecall from the van buyer saying he still hasn't recieved the logbook!

I've been on the phone to the Dept of E,H,L-G but keep getting their answer machine.

    What's one to do?

Worst case, report it lost to your local garda station, where you'll fill up a replacement documents form for them to stamp. You can either post that form to Shannon or drop it into your local tax office. The charge is either €10 or €12.

When the new VLC arrives, contact the new owner and get them to sign it again. Then either post it to Shannon or drop it into your local tax office.

This happened to me fairly recently; sent off 2 VLCs, but only got one back. Just explain to the new owner what happened, and give them a photocopy of the replacement document form stamped by the Gardai to show in case they hit a checkpoint.
