Using the online PAYE system

I have just received my six digit pin for the PAYE online service so I am in the process of trying to claim back tax from 2005-2008.
    I haven't a clue what I'm at! HELP!

For example, if i click on flat rate expenses for 2008 it shows up my employer for that year, and it says unclaimed beside it... next to that there is an edit button and when I click that I have to select what kind of employment i was in, say for example education. The problem is none of the options that are showing up match my job type so what do i do then? You can only click one of the options showing up on screen.

I am presuming the job type has to be accurate (like i couldn't click on teacher if i was a sales assistant) , since the gross relief due all depends on what kind of employment you were in.

I hope what I have just said all makes sense and that someone can hopefully shed some light on the matter for me, cheers :D

    Hi

It depends what job your in, some jobs like teachers, airline staff shop assistants are entitled to the PAYE expenses, other jobs like clerical staff civil servants etc are not. I hope this is of some help!!!!!

OP, be VERY CAREFUL when you're completing the form on-line - I did it for the first time in January of this year and entered my cut-off figure instead of what I earned and got a cheque for nearly €5k back - I genuinely hadn't a clue of what I was doing so got a bill for the money about about 4 months later...........good job I never spent it, but as I said to the guy on the phone, next year I'll be posting the forms in for them to process (my only worry now is that I may end up on the list of tax defauders!)..........might be no harm to call to your local tax office and get them to help you complete the forms.....

I did mine online on a monday evening and have the cheque in my hand on the Friday. The online system will only give the right answer if you put the right figures in. Online or paper you need to know what figures you are putting it in.

The PAYE anytime system is not that difficult to navigate.

With regard to the flat rate expenses, there is a full list of occupations/rates here; http://www.revenue.ie/en/tax/it/employee-expenses.html

If you are totally confused by it OP, then feel free to PM me and i'll assist in anyway I can.
