This was a low budget English film shown on either Channel 4 or BBC2 sometime in the mid 90s (it was also set in the same time period). It was based in some northern town like Birmingham and entered around the life of this nerdy working class boy in the equivalent of 3rd year in Secondary school who was bullied in school. For whatever reason he winds up in prison and then eventually hangs himself (not exactly a romantic comedy!).

It had a bit of a Mike Leigh feel to it but was not a Mike Leigh film. Anybody know what film I'm on about as I can't remember the title.

No it's not Scum. Most of the film I'm on about dealt with the boys life before he went to prison.

Shane Meadows does a nice line in that kind of film set in the Midlands, might be one of his?

No it's not one of his either unfortunately. I don't think this one got a cinema release at all, just a TV film.

No it's not Walking on the Moon, it has made and set earlier than 1995 I'd say. Also the kid in the film I'm on about was borderline autistic or something, anyway very peculiar and not just your run of the mill common school nerd. :)
