Is there anywhere in this country (or any other on the way) that I can rent a car to drive from here to Estonia and back. I thought this whole EU thing would mean it would be easier to do such a thing?

Dude, I used to work for a car ire company.... there is very little chance of that happening.... nothing to do with EU opening up trade ect....

your talking about taking €20k worth of car to estonia..... no car rental company will let that happen... unless you knwo someone there, or have a huge deposit( around value of the car)....its very hard to enforce a car rental contract and get car back if you decide to not come back at the agreed time... or ever....

    +1 as above
Used to work for a rental company too and it aint gonna happen.
Irish customers aren't even allowed to bring them to the UK and some companies even have restrictions on bringing them to the North

Well I know if you want to bring a rental car to england you have to look after all towing charges etc so you have to get AA membership for the time you have the car.

I presume on the continent you can drive across boarders. So maybe if you can get yourself to France you can drive from there to Estonia.
