I'm thinking about running a takeaway or small-sized resturant. I need to register a company firstly, but have no idea what type of company I should register.

I'm thinking of register the "A private company limited by shares", as it's a small-sized takeway which will be run by my husband and me.

I heard there is a type of "limited company", which needs to be registered by 2 people, not sure if it is the one called "a private company limited", not sure if it suits us?

Do I need to register a business name as well?

thanks in advence for any help.

    Hi

A private company limited by shares is usually the type of company that you form for a trading business such as yours.

    Hi DB,
so you mean private company limited is not for the type of openning a takeaway/resturant?

    cheers,

    Hi

A "private company limited" IS a private company limited by shares.

A company can be "limited" either by shares (which is the type of company normally used for trading entities) or it can be limited by guarantee (which is the type normally associated with charities).:)

You want the one that is limited by shares.

You should not need to register a business name also unless you intend to trade under a name that is different to the name of the company that you are forming

    Hope this helps

    Kind Regards

    DB

    Hi DB,

    thank for your quick reply.

is it required that I must name the takeaway as the company name that I registered? or it doesn't matter what the take-away name is?

    thanks,
    M

    Hi

You can change the name of the company if you wish by altering the memo and articles of the company to whatever name you want (so long as it is a name that is acceptable to the cro). Otherwise it dosent matter what you call the takeaway.

You can register a business name to the company also.

    Thanks, DB,

so currently, I just need to register a company name, I assume?

As a takeaway, business name seems too far to us

Just register a limited company in the normal way. Call it whatever you want. When you open the chipper you can call that whatever you want.

The name over the door will be a trading name of the business at that premises. Your company operates the business. So in this case it's

Your Company Name Ltd, T/A Your Take-Away Name

    T/A stands for Trading As.

When you open a second business, say a petrol station. It'll be

Your Company Name Ltd, T/A Your Petrol Station Name
