I've read a few FAQ about stride's but just can't get a full grasp of what they're.

I have in my head you basically try and get just under sprint speed but keeping the form of a relaxed jog is this the case?

or have i got the wrong the end of the stick all together

When I go training, we did strides as the finishing part of our warm up. I understood it as an additional way for preparing your muscles for the speed that you were going to work on during your training session.

You probably have seen this one, but I had a look for a FAQ on it too and the one I found here kinda clarifies what I am saying and it give more information why you need to do them.

Tingle gave us his view on it yesterday, your basically jogging, then we hit a mark and we break into stride, then we hit another mark and we try to hit sprinting speed before hitting another mark and then back to a jog, our focus was on maintaining a relaxed running form,we used 20 meter marks yesterday. Hope that helps

Another definition is 'slow sprinting'. So running below max effort but ensuring you do all the good stuff like arm drive, knee drive, high hips etc.
