I was on the VTOS website & from what I can see VTOS & BTEA are the same thing.
    Obviously I am missing something.
Can someone explain the difference to me please?

The difference is that VTOS is a grant paid through the VEC, it covers usually the cost of books and materials, not sure about 3rd lvl but plc courses have exam fees reimbursed, it has a small food allowance and travel allowance if you live a required distance from your place of study, and it pays around the normal rate of jobseekers allowance. BTEA is a grant from Social Welfare, it gives you the equivalent of jobseekers allowance, and a one time payment of around 450e i think, around Nov time for costs of books and materials you had paid for yourself. Both are subject to approval and requirements of the requisite governing body.
