Can anyone explain who actually needs to be registered and who can register. I work as an adult education tutor in VECs and it seems to be unclear. I am not a teacher, I am a qualified tutor and have a degree in adult education. I would like to register but other collegues have said they have paid and got back a cert saying they are unqualified. It hasnt been a problem up to know but I have been looking at some Youthreach jobs this week and they need you to be registered, even though traditionally they dont employ "teachers".

    Any help anyone

Vec's are supposed to employ qualified registered teachers for Youthreach aswell to meet the Education act '98 requirements. The post you go for may be funded from a different source rather than a typical teachers, eg SNA. You can send your qualifications to the teaching council and they will tell you what subjects they can register you for, if any.

    Good Luck

I suppose the best thing is to ask the Teaching Council??

But if it helps in any way, one of the guys from my PDGE last year had worked for the previous year as a sub and he sad because he was contracted for the year that he had to register. He was unqualified at the time....

BTW the Teaching Council is a disgrace - jobs for the boys!
Won't register most science teachers to teach Maths unless you get all relevant course documents together (pain in the ***) and then pay 200 euro to have someone check it out.

Meanwhile established teachers can teach subjects that they are not registered to and when you get interviewed and asked "Are you registered to teach Maths?" you know its another job down the pan.

May as well have gone to the pub with my 90 euro because as far as I can see thats what the Teaching Council are doing with it!
