    Hi guys,

I have a Netopia Router (originally supplied with Eircom broadband but I switched to Perlico and now use it with their broadband). I want to have wireless internet around my house - what type of wireless router do I need and will it completely replace the existing Netopia one or do I need to use it in tandem with it? (I still want to be able to use a "wired" connection for my desktop pc and also have the wireless flexibility for my laptop).

    Thanks in advance

    hi
i have a similar setup as you.
i use the netopia modem and connect my wireless router to the modem.
my pc is then connected to the wireless router by a cable and laptop can roam around wirelessly and since they are connected to the same router they can share files etc.

the other option is to buy a combined modem/wireless router but they are slightly more expensive

    your welcome in advance :)

Just make sure that the wireless router has ethernet ports and you are sorted. Any half decent wireless G router would be fine, you don't need any of these fancy wireless G+ or N standard router if you have only one or two devices attached to it, no point in having a dedicated 300MBS wireless connection to a 3 or 10 MBS broadband router.

One more thing if you have the modem already from your provider, all you need is basic router that you can attach to the existing modem.
