Both courses are very good. It depends what you want from college really.

The reason your friend may not be working where she wants to be may have nothing to do with her degree. Perhaps her results weren't very good or she's yet another victim of the economic downturn. Blaming her degree may be the easy option.

Analyse your intended career and then choose the degree that can best get you there is my advice.

I've heard Biomed is a joke of a course and kinda pointless. I think your better off doin undenom. Make sure to pick the subject grouping that has - physics, chem, biology and maths - this will give you all the choices for second year and if ya want to do biomed then you can tranfer over, almost sure ya can anyway. Email the dean of science Dr Gerry Morgan, hes spot on and will adivse you.

You're better off doing undenominated, I'm doing it myself actually. Undenominated gives you more choice in terms of subjects and gives you the full course in each. Biomed only shares bits and pieces.

e.g. Second year Biomed requires the main Biomed subject along with three of the following four subjects: Biochemistry, Chemistry, Physiology or Pharmacology.

Third year Biomed involves IT and Biomed as core subjects with two from four others:
    Anatomy, Biochemistry, Pharmacology and Physiology.

I'd recommend undenominated since you can basically do what you want in it with regards to subjects.

Edit: Any biomeds out there willing to correct me if I got anything wrong, would be appreciated.

cheers....so like undenominated science just gives you more options to work with?

Basically, yeah. That said, if you're going for pure physics, you're better off with the denominated physics degree, but I'm a chemist and they don't have a separate course for me.:(:D

I wouls defo reccommend undenom science, like they said it gives more choices. If Im not mistaken its 6 choices A-F and you choose.
First yr subjects range from physics, chemistry, earth and ocean science, maths (pass, hons),maths physics and biology.

I totally agree with you, Im the same and I wish they took in a denom degree for pure chemistry in order to solve the arsing about with other subjects.

Last year they brought in a new denominated chemistry course, not sure of its exact title but its there.

hey i'm just finished 1st yr biomed. most people here are right undenominated gives you way more options.

but 1st year is basically the same course we did bio, physics, chem but i.t. instead of maths.
i dunno is that changing because we complained about i.t. this year it was a complete waste of time and i know we dont have to do it in 2nd year now!
if its off you've got us to thank for it believe me the i.t. lectures were like torture!
oh and you'll have a series of biomed introduction lectures from different departments which are actually interesting

honestly first year is a bit of a waste of time esp if you've done a lot of the science subjects already.

next year we've to pick 3 subjects for the 1st term from pharmacology physiology anatomy and biochem. then we drop one for the 2nd semester
if your interested in these subjects i'd suggest doing biomed, its far less competition for places in second year.
there is like 50 places going for these subjects and in biomed you're only competeing out of 60 compared to 300 in undenominated (hope thats right almost sure it is my undenominated firends complain about it alot!)
like your almost certain of gettin a place in the subject you want.

other thing is because theres only 60 in the class its way easier to get to know people. like we had class trips and class parties a good bit!

they're both good courses but if your gonna be picking those subjects you may as well do biomed,

god what a long post! hope it helps. let me know if you got any questions! i know there's fup all info on biomed out there! even when you email nui!!!
