    Hi guys,

Quick question, my gf wants to get her laptop screen replaced on account of it being nicely smashed and went to a local laptop repair shop. She got quoted 180 for the screen replaced, does anyone know if this would be good or bad? I used to think you'd be talking 300+ to get something like this done?

    Cheers

Laptop screens prices have come down alot lately, a few years ago you'd be talking 300 alright. Your price would really depend on the make and model.

I can remember a while back being told that it would be cheaper to replace the laptop than to replace the screen. We are talking almost ten years at this stage to be fair.

I think that €180 is pretty good. My advice is to go for it.

well it all depends on how old the laptop is and what was the spec of it when purchased. If you paid under 450 for it i wouldnt see much point in geting it
180 does sound cheap though. Is that a new screen it would be replaced with and does the price include labour too ?

My girlfriend has loads of pictures and sentimental stuff on it so she'd prefer to get it fixed. She'll need a word processor for college so it doesn't really need high spec for anything else.

180 will cover labour and parts yes. so all good reviews so far? thanks guys!

Another possibility would be to get a case to use the HDD as an external for around €30 in the likes of Maplin, and access all the pics that way.

Price a screen on ebay, they're not too difficult to replace .

I would not recommend this. When disconnecting the screen from the mainboard there are bound to be one or two ribbon cables that are fragile enough if not handled carefully. On top of that if he's not used to dimantleing a laptop it can be quite stressful.

OP. I'd recommend you get it done by someone reputable. Make sure before hand if they're using a new, second hand, or refurbished screen, and what sort of warranty they provide with the new screen.

If you want to go down the new laptop route all her data is saved on the hard drive and is easily accessible with an enclosure as was said above.
