    Hey,

Bout 11.50 today saw an airliner approach Baldonnel. Anyone know what it was and who it belongs to? Maybe a charter with troops?

    Cheers.

Using the callsign Foxtrot 45, 8 crew on board. Hard to see through low cloud but looked like a 767 or A330...

edit: just heard them mention theres a 737 on the ramp, seemed bigger to me...

Yeah, saw it on finals... Thought it was either a 737 or A320. Turned on my scanner and the crew sounded American...

I don't think that's a call-sign, that was a a frequency designation. A callsign would have more characters that that.

Typically they are abbreviated to 3 characters. my guess is it was F-**45, as in a French reg aircraft, possibly numbers instead of letters for military maybe?

Nah, can't see an American Pilot on a French military jet. Maybe, but I think not. Would love to know what it's doing in Baldonnel. Possibly charter for troops, delivery of maintainence parts....???

Possible Transavia 737 for Troop movement, they used Transavia before.

Hi all just found out the mystery Aircraft is indeed a Military Aircraft, its a USAF C-40, arrived into Cork direct from America before heading to Baldonnel, Callsign "Boxer45" Reg 02-0203.

Decent sized pax aircraft just on final approach into Baldonnel. Looked like 757?

Always freaks me out/makes me run out the door to take a look as I am right under the flight path (to Baldonnel) so not used to aircraft on final approach! :)

On the news this evening they were covering the troops arriving back and mentioned that a new batch went out this morning, so maybe that was the plane coming in for them?

Didn't realise that Baldonnell has capabilities to take large jets like the 757 or 767. What's the biggest plane it could cater for?

Would the place be used for all movement of troops or would Dublin ever be used? Surprised Aer Lingus didn't get that gig either, it's unusual to see non Irish companies getting jobs like that.

There has been a C 17 in there before. 707 many moons ago also.

Aer Lingus sometimes provide troop transport and use DUB but more usually it's an ACMI type operation like Titan. See the link below, I don't think any Irish company has provided troop transport in quite a while. There is a pic of Irish and UK troops boarding an ACL 737 bound for Mali and a pic of a Ryanair 732 in the Air Corp history book.

It's the UN who pick up the tab (eventually) for these flights AFAIA, so they won't be looking at the nationality of the aircraft/crew, just the bottom line.

, it's unusual to see non Irish companies getting jobs like that.

Aer Lingus is not an Irish Company. Even if it was it would make no difference, jobs go to cheapest bidder.

Aer Lingus is the definition of an Irish company, what nonsense are you on about?

They often have to park on runway 23 though. This may have been posted here before, Omni Air 757 from a few years back

That's great vid. Good view of Dundrum, Nutgrove, bit of Marlay Park, Firhouse, M50 and Tallaght. Nice spin around Baldonnell too.
