Guru Interview

Just read this interview with Guru of Gangstarr, and was pretty shocked. He seems pretty ingrateful for Premo's contribution to his career, and dismissive of his fan's obvious interest and respect for the Gangstarr legacy.

Without doubt, Gangstarr are absolute legends in the game, but i have to say, i always thought Guru was the weak link. For him to dismiss Premo's contribution as being just his DJ is disgraceful. This is the man who is almost universally accepted as the greatest hip-hop producer of all time. I really don't think that Guru would be know to any of us without dJ Premier's contribution. Yet, without Guru, premo would still be the G.O.A.T.

The funny thing is, i have read interviews with Prem where he said he hoped to create more Gangstarr projects in the future, yet Premo clearly does not need Guru's contribution to be successful.

TBH, i hope Premo moves on, and decides to put out a group album with Royce instead. Imagine a Premo album with an emcee of (close to) equal calibre on the mic!

Couldn't finish the interview he seems like pompous dickhead. He is a sell-out, and the worst type of sell-out: a bitter, unsuccessful one. I got to the bit where he talks about the auto-tune, I just sighed for like the 100th time and just gave up reading.
His stuff with Solar is **** btw.

Royce 5'9 & Primo Album would be off the hook. In recent enough interview (around the end of 2008) he said he would like to work with Ghostface, that would be awesome. And Primo has so much more to be proud of then Guru, he has worked with some of the best up and coming, and respectable names in Hip-Hop in the last 5 years. (Verbal Threat, Royce 5'9, Reks, Termanology!)

****, a premo/ghost combo would be dope, or even better premo, ghost and raekwon! I am surprised Ghost hasn't taken him up on it, it seems like a great hook up.

As for guru, he really was the worst thing about Gangstarr. I could never get into his monotone delivery and he never really switched up the flow. All my favourite gangstarr joints are with guest spots (The Militia and Right Where You Stand being tied for no. 1 spot), and he got outshone every time.

This interview contrasts starkly with any interview i've ever seen with Premo - he always seems very down to earth, humble and respectful.

The impression I get is that he's after doing 10 interviews in a row in which all where focused on the past. And as Guru is out to plug his new label, record etc. he wants more attention on that aspect.

But he does talk some rubbish :)
