problem with wasps

    Hi all,

I'm truly sorry if this is the wrong forum, as I was intending to kill the wasps but I have good reason.

I have a wasp nest in my make shift shed. Thsi shed is to be pulled down next week and a proper one installed. It was hanging on the roof on the inside. A lot of traffic was coming and going and my wife in allergic. I do not want to find out the hard way if my two year old daughter is also.

Anyway, I bought a can of that projectile spray today and covered up until I looked like the michelin man and went to tackle the problem. With the first spray the nest fell into the shed.

My shed is filled up to chest height with stuff that was to be cleared out next week for the new one arriving but now I am not sure how to continue. Am I naieve in hoping they will leave now the nest is on the ground? I cannot see where it fell nor can I get to it without piece by piece removing things from the shed.

Can anyone advise or help me on this issue?

I cannot afford rentokil or anything like it so seeking a professional is sadly not an option. (tbh i cant afford the new shed either!) All advice though will be greatly appreciated.

Last year I had the same problem with a nest in a timber shed full of childrens toys but it's easily enough dealt with - provided the shed is reasonably airtight. If it doesn't have the wind whistling through it this should work and it's what I have done several times. Place a tin of insecticide spray in the shed, shake well and leave a heavy weight on it to cause it to continuing spraying while you vacate the shed. Shut the door and leave for as long as possible - hours - and then problem solved. Everything should be dead or dying but proceed with caution. I have learnt since I previously posted on this subject last year, that wasps do actually have a useful function - they eat greenfly and other aphids - but what the hell kill 'em all I say! :D
