    Hi lilolilly,

I'm from galway and got engaged in March. We looked at a few hotels the Connemara Coast hotel, Salthill hotel, Galway Bay, The Westwood and the Radisson. If I had to choose a hotel I think it would have to be the Galway bay because of their professionalism and the location. I have been to a few functions here. The only one fault is because there is two function rooms there is the possibility of two weddings on the same day. I have seen two brides in the red bar at the end of the night aghh! The hotel agreed that we could be a solo wedding if we decided on the venue! The Salthill hotel was ok they have done it up recently, however to me it appears unfinished and disjointed. Loved the Radisson, it was the most expensive of all the hotels, i think the location put me off a little though. I think deciding on a hotel is very much a personal thing. Every one has an opinion and diferent expectations. Anyway I'm heading off to Italy now! If you ring the hotels they will send you out their wedding brochure to get you started.

I shoot weddings in Galway and have been to all locations.

    1) Galway Bay - tend to have more than one wedding on at a time which can be messy if the two parties mix. They usually have a member of staff following the bridal party around to ensure they don't but it has happened.

Has a nice beach opposite for any outdoor shots if need be.

2)Salthill Hotel - was only there a few days back and the place looks amazing now its all finished. Park next door for some nice outdoor shots if need be. Food when I had some was excellent.

3)Claregalway Hotel - food & staff are superb. Only problem is the lack of gardens etc to take any pictures so do them before heading back to the hotel.

4)Radisson - top quality location, food is good, people are nice

    5) Meadow Court - Great food and service, been there as a photographer and a guest.

The other place you haven't added (not sure if it was intentional) is the Ardilaun which in my opinion is in the top 3 of hotels in Galway for weddings.

If you need any further info, PM me your email and I can touch base.

I've been to a wedding in the Galway Bay. Its an average hotel, food ok (very 'function-y' iykwim) and the room was really expensive, we paid 180 a night (had to stay two nights). The function room was nice, but overall I wasn't super impressed by it.

I certainly wouldn't be considering it if there's two weddings on the same day.

Bear in mind you wont see any bad feedback for a vendor that advertises with them. try and put something negative up for a vendor that does and watch it get deleted in seconds.
They also dont allow recommendations for vendors who DONT advertise with them.
They also dont allow vendors who dont advertise with them to answer questions on there. e.g.
"Is galway Bay hotel any good?"
"Hi Im from galway bay, call me to discuss"
If galway bay dont avertise with them, the thread gets deleted.

Im really not knocking them by the way, they have a business to run, its just dont expect to get impartial advice on there that you get here.

Yep, it's all very one sided on that site, and some other wedding forums.

there's been a thread very recently to compare the Galway Bay and Salthill Hotel. Lot of info there about both, so would recommend you read that.

Otherwise, the others all seem ok. Lack of a garden space would put me off a hotel personally. I like having green outdoors at weddings, even if it's wet out.

For over 200 ppl, I think the Ardilaun is appropriate. They do large weddings all the time. Friends that got married there recently weren't treated very nicely by the staff the morning after though, so be warned. They got cold breakfast sent up and when they complained got told that they got the room number wrong at first (but didn't bother to bring up hot breakfast instead). I was not impressed and would write them off myself for that alone.
The Westwood does weddings at a good price, don't know their max numbers but they seem to have an ok reputation.

I've never been to any of the hotels for a wedding, but we were checking out Meadow Court for ours, and only for it was booked up on the weekend we wanted, probably would have went with there! It's just gorgeous and really quaint.

We ended up getting married in Lough Rea hotel which I couldn't recommend highly enough. The food was fab, waiter service was brilliant and the whole set up was just great!

Some friends got married in The Westwood about 3 years ago, not sure if they still have the same chef but the food was fantastic. It had been picked at the time because the brother of the groom is a massive foodie and the head chef there was a mate of his though so not sure you'd get the same menu at a "normal" wedding there...

    Thanks for all the replies.
We have it narrowed to the Claregalway Hotel, Galway Bay and Salthill Hotel. However, trying to get in contact with the wedding planner in Salthill is impossible. She was meant to call me back several times and hasn't. I have heard from others she is pushy and scatty. Before I have even met her I am put off. Planner in Galway Bay has rang and emailed me since I was there a week ago.

Do a search on weddings online for Salthill, there are a couple of threads on there which should help make up your mind :)

re: Galway Bay, never been, but the fact they do 2 weddings a day would put me off straight away.

I was at the afters in Claregalway hotel about 7 years ago, but all I remember really is the band were great...lol, sorry not much help!!

    Thanks for the suggestion!!
Galway Bay only do one wedding a day now...they said they received bad feedback about that and have a new policy now! Good to know they listen to that!
