Good Previews of Irish U23/Juniors on AAI site now:

I must admit I am really looking forward to this. If we can get half of the quality we got at the Schools we will be laughing. I'm hoping Claire Brady is fit as we have 4 girls with the Euro standard and only 3 will get the individual slot so you'd hope it'll be first 3 past the post. If so I'd go with Kiernan, Proper, Brady.

Junior Mens 400 will be good too - Ryan, Harvey, Hannon, Mulhall.

Gregan is racing Nivelles Saturday and will only be doing the 200m. Looking forward to seeing Mark Patterson too and hopefully Mageean will race.

Might even go out to the backfield for a gawk at the new breed of 'Irish Whales' in the hammer!

Junior 400m will be really good, Billy ryan,Hannon, mulhal, Harvey and Patterson, it will be interesting to see how he goes.
u23s 200m-gregan... how good will he good after racing the day b4
u23s 800m-Leighio looking to bounce back and win title
u23s 1500m-coughlan vs chesser and im sure there will be a few other challenges

Hopefully ill get to see some of the races after mine:D

The Junior 800m will be a great race. Several contenders as pointed out on the AAI site.

Really looking forward to the High Jump - Barry Pender and Kourish.

The AAI previews state that Paul Robinson is not yet committed to an event- he is racing in the UK in a 500m on Sat and will compete in the 400m in the Juniors. Shane Quinn is in the Tailteann Games 500m on Sat and will race the Junior 800m.

James O'Hare ran 8 mins 25 on wed night for 3000m and races the 1500. Good pedigree after claiming the Schools Senior cross country and 5000m on the track.
World Youth rep Liam Markham will also be a medal contender along with race favourite Ian Ward.
Tomas Cotter and World Youth 300m rep, Jake Byrne will also be on the scene if any of the 1500m specialists fail to deliver.

Someone predicted Jason Smyth to go 10.4x and he did with 10.42 in Tullamore! Fantastic result, and as the AAI article says, he's now qualified for Euro seniors in Barcelona next year.

Colvert ran 10.70. Pender wins HJ with 2.13, with Faroughi down to 2.05m.

Eoin Kelly over 15m for Triple Jump.

    Proper out to 6.33m

He looked pure class. Nice tail wind but wasn't too warm so conditions weren't perfect but he was so smooth and solid, very exciting to see.

Colvert is a real talent and off so little training is running fast for a junior. 7 guys sub 11 across both ages.

Nice PB for Joan Healy in the 200 and Proper's last 50m in the 200 versus Kiernan was savage.

Classy run by John Coghlan to win the U23 1500 and Joe Warne made the crucial one and only decisive break at about 130 to go. Great to see championship races and tactical battles, so much more exciting.

Good PB for Barry Pender in HJ. Many other good competitions.

Some good performances but atmosphere was dead. Organisational problems - no clock, no FAT for early races, delay in timetable. Obviously things like that need to be addressed but Smyth's sublime run overshadows the negatives. Hesh might just now be thinking about maybe starting to look over his shoulder:D, bit to go but he is getting closer to Hesh.

I think it was 3.70. She failed at higher but not sure at what height. She was taking it pretty chillaxed by the look of things.

Just noticed Chesser ran 3.43.85 for a pb in the BMC 1500mA race on Saturday night, came home and was unluky to be pipped on the line by Coghlan in the 1500m.

Yeah an exceptional run from him didnt think he had that kinda speed in his legs doin the longer stuff mostly great to see him running so well

If the standards in the International booklet for 2009 are accurate, that run in the UK qualifies Chesser for the European U23's. A good summer for Ennis TC in that case with Liam Markham on his way to the World Youths also.

Excellent run from Rory. One would think that the AAI would have copped onto this by now result and posted this 4 second pb and qualification standard on the AAI site by now.

I doubt Rory cares too much about a blurb on the site! Getting confirmation of selection would please him much more! ;)

With the delayed results from Sat night they might not even know about it. The spanners

Would be kinda strange considering the have full thing on the u23s i mean it is their job to keep up tp date especially for selection processes

Guys there were 27 qualifiers for the EYOF, a team of 6 selected for the World Youths, I believe 20 or more for the European Juniors along with all the U23's. Will you find an article on these 60 or more individulal qualifications? Do we honestly expect that. AAI are well aware of Rory's performance and I'm sure he'll be selected. They are fully up to date on qualifiers.

We also has some super performances at the weekend eg Olive Loughnane beating the Bronze Medalist from Beijing in the Phoenix Park.

Sometimes I think we just like to moan a lot and focus on whatever negatives we can find in our sport. Lets focus on the positives - believe it or not there are plenty!! There are issues - I am not blind to them but lets not seek some where none exist!;)

If any individual makes a qualification standard then absolutely I believe it should be advertised on the AAI site. This is where people go to read articles on athletics, athletes and results. Not everyone knows the standards for each gender over every event and I for one would like to see them highlighted where one is met.

If they can take the time to show the results of the Ballybofey 5k for example I dont see why they cant show a few high performances. I don't mean any disrespect to any of the organisers of, or winners of road races etc around the country I would like to see the results of every race on athleticsireland. And no doubt you will prob come back with the fact that they can't show every result. Then if I had a choice I would rather see a high performance over a road race result.

I ain't moaning about the sport. I love the sport. A moan about the sport and a moan about the organisation that governs the sport are two different things. I know only too well there are positives in the sport which is my point.... they should be advertised
