    hello there

builder wants to pour the sub floor so that its level with top of the block - this makes sense - easy to powerfloat etc

he also wants to ensure that the final floor level is level with the top of the next block - this means my final floor thickness needs to be either 6 inches (if he uses a soap bar) or 215mm if he uses a full block.

is this correct - I was hoping to have a final floor thickness of 185mm

he says that he needs the floor to be level with a block because he always works off the block for door ope heights etc ??

The builder makes sense. Why were you expecting 185mm?

    125mm insulation + 60mm screed

does this mean that nearly all final floors constructed around the country are either 6" thick or 215mm thick ?

    100 insulation 50mm screed.

    100 insulation 50mm screed.

so if I want 125mm insulation it means i have to make up a floor thats 215 mm thick ?

or 125mm insulation and 50mm screed using 175mm screeding boards,
or 125mm insulation and 75mm screed using 200mm screeding boards.

Remember FFL may be a condition of planning.

175 or 200mm would leave me short of the 215 block

the main reason he's giving for getting the floor level with the block is not for tamping the screed but because all his door ope heights are based on a multiple of blocks etc

    He is right about that
