Young Persons Allowance???

    Hi, Just wondering if young people in Ireland can claim a benefit whilst looking for work.

    I'm 17 and just finished school. i just want a few quid each week to tithe me over til i get a job.

    any info? cheers!!

    PS: im not some waster who does nothing all day im actualy looking for work.

    You cannot claim Jobseeker's Allowance until 3 months after you finish school. You also have to be 18 to make a claim.
    If you are still looking for work in 3 months time, and have turned 18 by then, you can make a claim.
    However, it will be means tested, and if you are still living at home your parents income will be taken into account. Also there is a reduced rate for anyone under 20 of €100 a week.
