Hi, If anyone could help or advise I would be greatful.

Avast kept coming up as expiring in so many days so I uninstalled and installed AVG but this didnt seem to run properly. Uninstalled same and tried Comodo and could't open Firefox without running IE7 first. Tried a couple of microsoft fixes and now have none of the above browsers. I'am doing this on some form of MSN and in safe mode. Also seems I 'am not able to download.
Since first posting I have been able to run an online virus scanner and removed a trojan and some adware. I can now browse the web using MSN but IE will not open(it makes an attempt to open its front page) I still cant download anything and also I'm not able to do a system restore. It also look like theres no antivirus running.

If you still have it on your PC can you check the install file you used for AVG? Should be called avg_free_stf_en_85_374a1564

I recently went to install AVG on a friends PC and the first link from google was a link to a false Antivirus, looked a lot like AVG and I nearly installed it. Only copped it because i'd installed AVG earlier in the week on my own PC.

    Tks Sea08 for reply,

Avg is completely gone off my computer and it was an ok version. What I have found out in the mean time is that one of the girls downloaded IE8 and this seemed to be conflicting with Firefox. I got rid of FF but IE8 has a program Internet explorer 8 release candidate 1 which cannot be removed if u already have XP service pack 3 on your system. Anyway I downloaded copies of Firefox and Comodo antivirus on disks from another computer and everything seems to be running ok now apart from the fact that I still cant download anything! Does any of this make sence to anyone :(
