Appreciate some help here. Ive been receiving job seekers benefit as I lost my job at the end of last summer and my Prsi stamps entitled me to it. Anyway, i got a letter sent out to a while ago that my stamps were going to run out soon and that i'd have to fill in the form they sent and send it back to them so they could means test me for unemploymet benefit after the stamps run out.

Anyway, yesterday there was no money in the post office for me, so i assume the stamps ran out, how long does it take them to get back to me, i left the form in about 3weeks ago.

I tried ringing the office and they wont answer the phone, and i went in today and there was 30 people ahead of me in the ticket queue so i just left.

    What do i do?

You may just wait, i was cut off 4 weeks ago after my stamps ran out and I had my new forms in weeks before that. Got a letter today saying they require more information, they already have the stuff. I submitted it weeks ago but they dont have it now *sigh* I dunno

Temporarily across the pond in the States, and I've found that when their unemployment benefits end, that's all folks! Plus you drop off their unemployment rolls statistically, so the 10 percent unemployment figure in California is understated during the Great Recession? I guess you could claim welfare over here, but not sure how anyone survives off that, other than by leaving the state and moving to a cheaper cost-of-living one? And the state is so deep into debt that the Governor is threatening to send IOUs rather than checks, which I doubt will buy food, much less pay the rent (or mortgage if you haven't been thrown out by a bank foreclosure yet).

And the Credit Card Bubble of a trillion dollars in debt has not burst over here yet, and I can just imagine the long soup lines after that! But we all know that the Capitalistic system is alive and well, especially after almost a trillion dollars in government bailout monies funded by future taxpayers.;)

You need to wait in the queue unfortunately!
You will have to be sent for a means assessment, if you haven't been yet. You will meet with an inspector for this.

You can contact your community welfare allowance re supplementary welfare allowance while you are waiting.

Go to the Social Welfare office and wait and talk to someone in relation to your JSA claim. Ask how far its on and when your due your means test. And then talk to the CWO and they will give you Supplementary Allowence until you get your money (thats assuming you qualify)

I went into the social welfare office this morning, ive to meet with someone Tuesday morning in some other office, i assume this is the means test, they told me once you tick the box "have you got savings" that it delays your processing as that has to be checked or something.

God, if i could just get a job, even a 3day week; I was sort of hoping to myself that i'd have picked up some work before my Prsi stamps ran out and i wouldnt have to get into all this means testing and proper dole stuff, but no, too good to be through. You'd be fed up with it all.

Hey- welcome to the Big Time, Rookie!!!

I skippped out on JSA after my stamps ran out. I did not want to re-enter the system but all the casual labour dried up around last September, and, here i am back in the loop, 7 weeks into a claim and with nobody answering or returning my calls.
