Yea I felt he was marginally better than Kearney but one of the few areas we had great strength in depth.

    Bodycount continues..

Are they calling up Denis Hurley :D ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,198 ✭✭✭✭Crash

Cian Healey. There, I said it. Everyones been thinking it, come on, he'd make a great fullback.

Unfortunate for Byrne but great to see Kearney now nailing the full back spot. In my eyes Kearney was impeeded attackingly by Kidney's game plan (not a bad thing as we won the GS under it!) and is just as good in broken field play as Byrne as we have seen in the past.

As an aside good to see nearly 1/3 of the Lions team being Leinster men and nearly 1/2 of the team being Irish!

pity armitage wasn't included in the squad. He's sorely missed now.

Should of been in there ahead of Earls IMO. You wouldn't start Earls in a test game but Armitage would definitely of made the 22 under these circumstances. And possibly could of nipped Fitzgerald for the 11 jersey.

I would rather play Lee Byrne who had 2 broken legs, 2 broken arms, 2 dislocated shoulders, 2 broken metatarsals, 2 ruptured achilles tendons and the SARS virus than play Denis "How did I get a Heineken Cup Medal?" Hurley.

Don't flame me for this. :(:(

pity to see him gone. he offered a threat from the back superior to the other candidates.

It's been scientifically proven that the altitude would have the opposite effect on him...he'd be world class.

Scientifically proven I tell you :D

There goes our most potent attacking threat from deep. :(

good to see nearly 1/3 of the Lions team being Leinster men and nearly 1/2 of the team being Irish!

    Why?

Rather see them win with 15 english players than see them lose with the current test team.

Because its great to see that Irish rugby is so strong that we make up the majority of the team.

Did you delete the other post or was it someone else who wrote they felt no attachment to the lions team the way they did towards Leinster and Ireland? And the only way they would feel an attachment would be through provincial and Irish players being on the team.

If that was your original post....

Then go away and don't bother cheering for the lions. We don't need or want you as a 'fan'. Keep your hard on for BOD and the Leinster magic.

I can't believe that this forum descended into this **** during the lions. I've said it before and will again reiterate it. The Lions are our team. Let's beat the Saffers. Come on the Lions.

*Edit.Apologising for the language used, I had a little too much to drink. Won't happpen again. (The language that is, not the drinking)

Well to be honest I don't feel attached to the Lions team like I'm do Leinster and Ireland and I positive a lot of posters here feel the same.

Given enough injuries, your local pub XV would make up the majority of the team. It wouldn't make them any better.

Don't get me wrong, if nobody was injured there would probably be more Irish players on the team. But it had to be said

And tbh I think you should go and cheer on your Blue Magic and leave the rest of us to cheer for the lions without bringing other sh*te into it.

I'm sure if the lions win the series you'll be the best fan they ever had.

I'd be delighted if the Lions win but nowhere near as happy as when Leinster won the Heineken Cup or when Ireland won the grand slam and I have no problem admitting that.

Why not just make it the 6N Irish squad. Seriously, O'Leary over Phillips? O'Leary was ok in the 6N but he was extremely slow in getting to the breakdown and his passing brutal.

You just described Phillips there. ;)

The injuries have really stacked up on this tour which would make winning all the sweeter. Byrne is a big loss but I'd be confident that Kearney can keep up the good form of last Saturday.

Well, Kearney didn't do too badly now did he;) Can't have done any more. He is world class in my book and only going to get better. Fair dues
