depends on weather...windy and it is a monster..calm and it is long but manageable

If you play to your handicap that is a good day on this course anything better is a very good round

The SSS off the blue tees is 75. Par 72. So, if you could shoot around 85-86 then you'd be doing good.

I think you'll find that there's a bigger buffer zone way out there in category 2 land Graeme so 85-87 would be playing to 10 on a normal day.
    I haven't played Carton House yet :(

a member of carton house wants to make a bet with me ,he said i would never on my best day break 90 off the championship tees. 85 is the best i have done out there from the white tees ,its a hell of a test as it is but off the championship tees i wonder how i would cope?

I'm only getting in the swipe now while I can because I just recently halted my record run of 11 .1's (and a few 0's in there too) with a massive -0.2 cut.... safe in cat1 for another wee while :)

Take the bet. If you don't break 90 tell him it wasn't your "best day" and have another go :)

Only played the course once but looking forward to my free round next year on the course (In theory the game is free but it is costing me a lot more to get the free golf)

Depending on the wind direction it can be done..

If it is against you on the 1st I will say it will be a long hard battle as the likes of 1, 5 & 16 are pure animals from the backs in with that breeze... 16 goes from being a nice opportunity hole to a bring out what you got to get up or near in 2...

I think that if a 10 handicapper goes out with a plan to break 90 he should be able to do it on any course by playing conservetaly. The trouble comes when you try to break 80. driver off the tee, trying to hit greens that you could only reach if you hit it perfectly.

Simple, long par 4 say 480 yds? straightest club off the tee even if it's only a 4 iron = 190 yds. 6 iron = 165 yds leaving a 9 or wedge to the green. 2 putts gives you bogey. you only need one par in the whole round at that rate.

Besides, it's not the championship tees that make a course unplayable for us catagory 2 players, it's the championship pin positions.

don't play it. Played it in Barton Shield a couple of weekends ago and it is nothing more than a monotonous slog. It is in great condition but there are very few highlights to it. All it is is a big field with bunkers. I'd recommend playing the O'Meara course which is far more playable and enjoyable and has many more features..

I think you misunderstood (or I did), I assumed we were talking a 10 handicapper beating 80 gross, not net of handicap. Hence the talk of gross scores above.
