Hooking up a new clinet machine onto server

Could anyone point me in the right direction as to how i can add a new client machine to my server. ive tried doing it throught some fact sheets but their not great and cannot seem to get hooked, if anyone has ideas on how to do it or indeed somewhere i can get better detailed notes that would be fab. Server and client OS / version would be a start.
