Anything better at this price point?

I'm having a look at the BeOne Storm on CRC.

It's around €850.. I was originally going to stick to €800, but the BeOne has a Shimano 105 setup whereas most other bikes i've been looking at have been Tiagra. (The Boardman Comp being a mix of 105 and Tiagra)

Is there anything better out there at this price point? Or should i wait until the introduction of 2010 bikes?

(My size is 56, if it helps with stock on suggested bikes)

I have the 2008 and i am quite happy with it. The 2009 looks betters and has the newer 105, but its on standard double which might be a bit too much if you are new or not strong enough.

I have one question on the Beone Strom too - i just sat on a 53cm - when when standing had 1 or 2 cm to "spare" . So, would this be the right size frame for me ?

Cube has some marginally better components from a cursory glance. I was in a similar position when I got my bike, opted for the Cube, although mine had Ultegra over the 105, at a higher price.

Both of them get good reviews, if it were me I'd probably opt for the Cube.

Go for a compact though, not a triple.

sorry lukester the beone is at least a £200 cheaper than any similiar equipped bikes due to a markdown by crc (hopefully this thread doesnt cause them to sell out )

Then it's a very good deal. Have only seen good reviews of the Storm.

Suppose the BeOne is the best bike at that price point then. I'll have to read up some reviews

Not a fan of the Vero crankset. I have seen a lot of entry level road bikes online suddenly offering regular doubles, which is pretty surprising. Outside of racing or living in complete flatland, not many people need anything other than a compact or a triple.

I would personally go for the BeOne and buy a 27 tooth cassette with it.

Bellix! Went to buy the BeOne Storm today and they've no 56cm-sized left.

Probably not gonna get anymore back in either as they'd be clearing 2009 stock at this stage i'd assume

The entire forum does seem to love the Cayo.. pity its €350 dearer.

Right now that seems a lot, but in a few months time when you're wondering if you should have spent the extra for the Cayo, it won't.

You might actually save money in the long run as the upgrade fever may take longer to bite with the Cayo.

    Very very true!

I got the Beone Storm 09 last week. Was initially looking at the entry level full carbon bikes but budget got unexpectedly restricted so needed to look around this price point.

I'd read the bikeradar review of the storm, and a couple of forum reports on it, and it all seemed good news...CRC also had a 10% off code at the time so it worked out a nice little deal.

I'm really happy with the bike...had just been taking it easy all week, cruising up and down the coast, but got a day out in wicklow yesterday...covered around 60k and it was a really nice ride.

Comes with full Ritchey finishing kit as well, its advertised as such on the beone site but dont think it's mentioned on CRC.

Had to leave it into LBS to set limits on the rear derailleur...it was set up by CRC functional, but couldn't shift into lowest or highest gears properly...so after making it worse by trying myself (I have no patience with these things) I gave it in.

Rest of the assembly was fine...rear brake was attached but not connected...front brake needed to be attached and connected...bars needed to be assembled and attached. Almost everything was pre-greased by CRC.

Regarding the Cayo, €350 is a serious chunk of change, one which I just can't afford.

Mother D is making the Storm sound good to me.. I've popped off an email asking CRC is there getting any more 56s back in, but theyre probably not. So i'll just pick up a Boardman from Halfords if I can't find anythign better

I have ordered a Beone Storm 2009. Im 5'11 and inseam of 32 inch. I was told the 53cm was the correct size for me.... a little concerned that it may be too small. Any thoughts?

    I share your concern.

Oops. Should i be looking at the 56 then?

I'm 5' 10" but have a 30" inseam, I sat on a 56 and found it too big (not enough stand over height) so a 53 should fit me, I'd say it might be a bit small for you (unless like me you have little legs).
