    Just a quick question . .

with the D.C.U providing many many many car parking spaces why do the students find the need for parking in the near-by estates????

Collins avenue residents had to get meters put in place to stop there road being used now Albert College and Shanowen are full of cars being left from students. Its ridiculous

Because there are more cars than spaces

thats a load of crap. . there is a 3floor car park(could be mistaken) and a few ground car parks around the campus. As far as im aware the price is subsidised by the college. The same cars every day park on the same roads. Do they just happen to not get a car parking spot every morning??

I thought unless disk parking was in place, people could park basically anywhere legally?

+1 to that. Who doesn't get satisfaction in finding a free spot near Pay & Display parking. :pac:

you wouldnt be saying it if they were parking outside your own house . yes i no that once the car is taxed legally they can park there but if the DCU supplys parking spots why not take them? cars get blocked in and people dont care they just park and go.

This has been a constant complaint from DCU's neighbours ever since I went to college there (10 years ago). The unfortunate point is that as long as a car is parked legally on a public road, they have as much right to be there as you do. Fair it aint but legal it is. You have two options:

If it's parked illegally, call the gardai or the city clampers. If neither of them are taking action, visit the sergeant in Santry station and ask why nothing is being done.

Ask the council to introduce permit parking on the roads around your house. DCU students, unless they live there, won't be able to get a permit.

Yes DCU supplies a certain amount of car parking spaces but demand is far greater than supply. There is also the fact that to park in the multi storey car park you have to pay. There is nothing illegal about people parking in the areas nearby.

If you are experiencing problems with people blocking driveways/roads then there is a problem and you should call the relevant authority. If the car is not casusing an obstruction there is nothing that you can really do about it. By law they have as much right to park there as you!

ah i understand that and i know being students probably working nights and stuff the last things you want to be paying is for car parking. But there is two car parks free of charge and the DCU owns property behind the esso garage with a large car park and im sure others in the area why dont they do anything about it. Trust me the residents have been onto mister President. . on a few occasions not too often i must admit they do park directly outside my house stopping our cars being able to get parking and blocking the driveway. Just taught id ask was there a way around this annoyance??

Well if they block you in the gardaí should (whether they will is another matter, I suppose) tow the car, and being close to santry garda station, they wouldn't have too far to go as that's where they tow them too I think?

ah and then they would have to pay a release fee and a holding fee i wouldnt do that to anyone. especially someone trying to get an education which is all there doing but gets so annoying when they park outside the house without any care for other traffic

I have no idea why students would be parking there at this time
of year as there is loads of room during the summer in all the car
parks once there are no big events on.

Also students would be parking in those places around the same
time that residents would be going to work. So when you arrive home
wouldn't most of them be gone home?

I understand how annoying it can be for you but I think in order to get your message across when/if they block access to your home you must make a complaint to the relevant authority. If you're not willing to do this there is no point in complaining about it.

Tough if they have to pay a release fee, they'll learn not to park illegally.

Leave them a nice note explaining if they block your driveway again you will get the car towed, if they do it again then it's their own fault. I drive and if someone left me a note instead of going to the gaurds I'd be very happy and would think twice about parking there again, but that wouldn't happen because I park properly :D

Not a load of crap unfortunately.....
(and it is a 4 storey car park with a basement FYI)

The two free car parks fill up first every day, the parking cost 7 euro for 6 passes into the multi storey, so it is not that price prohibitive. I have had on several occasions had to park across from the University. And tbh I did not want to do such but what other options are there for people/ students using the University??

I would much rather have my car secure in a multi storey rather than park it out on the street. Sure you never know who is near by and might try to rob it!?!

No, my other post is best read as if it has a neutral tone. In any case, I don't drive and if I did I wouldn't park illegally, or block driveways etc.

However, anybody just generally parking outside your house -- if there are no restrictions -- isn't doing anything wrong. They have just as much of a moral and legal right to park anywhere there are no parking restrictions as you do.

As markpb pointed to, and as there does seem to be a lot of DCU traffic parking in the area, why don't the residents of the area come togather to ask the council to introduce permit parking on the roads around DCU?

You've obviously never tried to find a space after nine or before five before...
