Ok, so I've just bought a new fridge freezer. When it is delivered are the delivery men obliged to take away the packaging? Its a rather large one and I won't have any room to dispose of it.

No, they're not obliged to take it away so ask them nicely and give them a decent tip.

Bugger that! I've already paid €25 for delivery!

Doesn't matter now. It's been delivered. Seemingly it has to sit in the box for 4 hours to let the gas settle

As far as I know if the supplier is a member of repak they don't have to accept the packaging waste

but this article may have highlighted a loophole back in Dec 03

It doesn't need to be inside the box (sounds like a sneaky way of getting away without taking the packaging to me), but does need to be kept in a stable upright position for a minimum of a few hours (some say 2, some 4 but the more the better) to let gas and motor oil settle.

Personally, where possible, I'd have the fridge in its final resting place (no more moving) for a few hours before turning it on.
