    I want to connect my laptop to my Xbox to download the file to allow me to play movies on my xbox through my USB key . What cable do i need?
    Have misplaced all cables etc i got when i bought xbox ?

    Plug your USB key directly into the front of the XBox, then stat Xbox and open up 'Video Library'.

    I have done this already and this takes me in to my stored films on the usb key but will not allow me to play them .

    The USB key needs to be formatted for FAT32 first I think its called. Think you can play .avi and .mpg files then.....

    he sees the files, he needs to download codecs.

    OP: there is a sticky in Xbox category, How to connect..blahblah. You will find all answers over there. BTW you'll need crossover cable.
