Odds on some sh*tty Quake RPG using the Oblivion engine in the next couple of years?

As long as it wasn't EA that bought it.

RIP Bullfrog and Westwood (among others)

Man, I smell some trouble here. I have read that
Carmack intends to keep the current principles of id software.

I would hate to see id/bethesda not releasing Linux ports,
or eventual release of the source code of id game engines.

I still respect id software for standing by their word
even though the release schedules have been off lately.

Bethesda appears to have a "good" reputation, which may
a plus, but I do hold some skepticism.

They better not influence the coders/designers in a negative
way. If this happens, id software is screwed.

Let's face it, id software are the pioneers of the fps
genre. It would be a terrible shame if they went down
the drain due to corporate interests.

Hopefully, this won't be the end of id software:(

Looking glass studios especially springs to mind:(

No command and conquer game has been decent
in my mind since around the release of the original red alert.

To be honest, I would not worry about it at all. It just seems like ZeniMax are attempting to diversify.

The only major IP that ZeniMax have is The Elder Scrolls and most recently Fallout. ZeniMax now have new IP's such as Quake, Doom & Wolfenstein.

True, especially considering the fact id are in need of the extra
    resources that ZeniMax/Bethsda would bring.

Last time I checked, only about 60 people work at id.
Not tiny, but certainly in need of more manpower today.

Also, like previous posters have mentioned, it could have
    EA/id at this stage:p

Less of the crappy iphone ports of wolf3d, and more
    staples for the pc please:)

There is a roguelike. It's right here. As to whether it works on mobile phones, I've no idea.

Robbie Williams? Would you listen to you Jazzy, desperately trying to stay contemporary and fresh but failing miserably. Go home Grandpa! He is more like The Jack Bauer of RPGs.

For any unix people out there, I emailed John Carmack
directly about Linux ports/source code releases and got a straight out response 12 hours later.

Quite pleased he actually responded to me:)
It is still to be determined. Linux support is still forthcoming for Quake Live for sure, but I need to make a good case for the various open source options.
I wouldn't say there is hostility to it, but it isn't something that any existing Zenimax teams promote.

    John Carmack
