Bandwidth Usage for Skype Video?

I've been video chatting with a friend over Skype for the last month.
I assumed it would use all that much bandwidth. When I checked my BT account it said that I had used 1.3 GB, for this 2.5 hr session alone.

I did download a tv episode, but that was only 250MB. Aside from that all I've done was use Skype.

Does this seem like a crazy amount of bandwidth to anyone?
My broadband package only has 20GB, so I'm probably already over that for this month :(

1.3 GB for 2.5h hours is 1.16mbs not all that much for streamed video.

It is when you have a download cap.
It's a pity Skype don't give an option to decrease the bit rate or resolution.

    Hi lads,
Me wants to get my granny a new laptop with the primary reason being Skype usage. Am looking at this and this and both seem to have a VGA or 0.3 MP built in camera. Will this be good enough for Skype? I don't want to buy it and find out later it is not up to much.

I would rather have a better web cam and a lower processor and RAM etc. etc. as she will only be using it for Skype and light Web browsing.

Does anyone know what the max resolution of built in web cams are these days?

    Cheers,
    M

I think there are plenty of built in webcams that are 2MP.

0.3 MP is 640x480 pixels, which is plenty for video chat imo.
