Bits on the Pavement

You lie before me, dead and cold.
I'm driven to madness, soul asunder.
A dead morass, a life untold,
What went wrong? You make me wonder

Why? What choices did I make?
What errors in the method caused
You to die on me again?
So now, I have no choice but pause.

I stop and think of all the time
We spent together, just we two,
The joy you gave this life of mine
When you changed me as I made you.

But now, my hair is lies on the floor.
Upon the desk, my fingers tremble.
The tears are gone but I know more
Are waiting for me to disassemble

You. You were my code and with one flick,
You're mine no more. The screen is blue,
My heart is ice and I feel sick,
You died just when I needed you.

And so you're gone, none but I see.
I climb the window ledge and bail.
What once was promised can never be,
I die because my program failed.

I first interpretted this as a character in an rpg dying (as I was reading it), but it's good the program way too. A wonderful poem :)
