    Wow, weird.

We had a car for a 24hr test drive, did the temp insurance switch with no charge at all.

Hibernian have started doing this recently too. They will relent under pressure though, and online changes are free.

Ive done this with Insure.ie (Zurich Eagle Star) 4 times, and never once had a charge. I know some insurance companies are wiseing up to people transferring it over to a 2nd for long periods, so have started to bring in a maximum duration period. I think Quinn will only allow you 30 days per year of insuring other cars, so if you have a weekend car, you can insure it 15 weekends of the year.

A lot of insurenace companies have been charging people for years for temporary insurance transfers... but generally in the past it was only when the insured was doing it regularly....
used to see of lot of it happening from regular renters in the last job...

I had to pay €20.20 each time my car went into the garage recently. It seems to be a set price with my insurance company(25plus.ie) as the first car I got was a 05 Opel Zafira and the second one was a 07 Toyota Avensis

When you say pressure, do you mean Ill cancel all my policies or Im just not paying that and how dare you charge me.

FWIW Ive never been charged to do this and I'd be pretty disgusted if I was,
although most of the recent policies I have had have included the driving of other cars so Its not something I really do anymore.

I'm much gentler than that, although the subtext is clear enough.;)

Im with no nonsense. Had the car in for a service. Rang no nonsense to change over insurance for the day to a loaner from tge garage. They wanted to charge me 75 euro. Think thats unfair to cgarge as it is a temp change.
