    Wow, fantastic update! /sarcasm

Could they not have called this 2.79 or something

The move to [.8] should have included a new feature or something.

147 MB? Christ. Think I'll leave it off til the next update.

Actually I've heard this greatly increases the speed of the in game cross media bar and the internet browser is improved so it's not that much of a non event. Of course due to it being PSN it's a 20 minute download and install of a stupidly big file.

Or... you could follow the link in the OP, download the file now (getting around 600Kb/s here in work), then install it from a flash drive. Saves me a lot of time as downloading over PSN seems to take ages or is capped at some maximum download speed.

Cheers OP for the link btw.

2 minutes on the old PC. I never realised you could download them on your PC. Much better than having the PS3 tied up for 20 minutes

Please God let the internet browser go better. It's the second-worst bit of the PS3, IMO (behind Home)

Just remember to keep the folder structure correct on your flash drive. You have to make a folder (case sensitive) called "PS3" then inside it make another folder called "UPDATE". But the firmware file in that folder.

Installed it, don't notice much difference in speed.

I installed it today and when I unlocked a new trophy I went and checked it out by pressing PS button and the screen froze :(

Hopefully it was only cos I've been playing non-stop for 4 hours and not the start of a massive systems failure...hopefully

I've been too worried to start it up again in case I see the yellow light

Yeah better off never playing it again in case you get the yellow light and can never play...oh wait :P

Kidding aside though I hope yer PS3 is grand.

Usually hate downloading the updates but followed the advice above and done in no time.

Excellent tips RetroGamer & L31, will be doing this in future!!!

I just downloaded this update and for the first time I used the pc to download it , and it only took 1 minute 38 seconds. :)

Also downloaded it on over the PSN and it took 1 minute 58 seconds to download, not much in it but I think I will go the pc route from now on.

    Thanks OP.

I haven't got to my PS3 yet. Is the update any good?

Yeah it's alright, the muffins that the PS3 makes now are only alright though and I didn't think much of the foot massage.

I can't see any difference between before and after the update, but haven't really been watching too carefully.

Will this update make me not suck at Killzone and COD?

Yes, it will also make you a better person in general.

So the real reason for this update was to block access to remote play from PCs. Hmm...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,731 ✭✭✭FrostyJack

Best upgrade ever! Well it was for me as it fixed the bug the previous one caused and I can now download content again and send messages. Japanese zombies watch out!!!!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,283 ✭✭✭Glico Man

Hooray! My PS3 lives on. No yellow light or nothing. I'd say it had simply overheated cos of an extended gaming session. No other problems since the firmware download so it's definitely not that.

Long live the original 60GB PS3!! (though it recently got a shiny new Samsung 320GB HDD)

Good job aaronh007, mine still lives on too with its new 320GB Western Digital !!
    Only 40GB left haha
