Help cleaning out laptop

Hi all, not sure if this is the correct thread or not...

Need some advice on cleaning up laptop. I have a 3 year old Dell Inspiron 6400 running Windows XP, works perfectly but could do with a cleanup to free up some speed, picked up lots of crap over the years. My plan was to reinstall windows and start from scratch but the original CD is no where to be found! (dang)

Just wondering what the options are, apart from say uninstalling unused software & defragmenting the HD? Are there any pieces of software that help clean up registries & all that - effectively simulating a reinstall?

I really just want to minimise unused resources & up the general performance of the machine, there's a few good years left in it yet!

    Any tips much appreciated, cheers.

Maybe your laptop has a recovery partition? It's usually hidden, but (IIRC) might be visible under "disk management", if it's there.

If it is, sensible googling will get you the right info to inititate a recovery. Backup important data before proceeding though!

Waste of time trying to clean it up (IMO) - a fresh install is the only way to go.
