Saw this URL on the back of a car a short while ago.
    www-dot-mileage correction-dot-ie

I thought the actual act of changing an odomoeter was recently made an offence?

......If you need to change the mileage for any reason, this is perfectly legal............

    Well, that's that made clear!

I like the way they do a clocking check service too

Customer: "Hi, I bought this car last week. I'd like to check if it was clocked."
Milage Correction bloke : "Yep, we had it here 10 days ago. Took 80k off it. That'll be 50 euro please."

not too sure, but iirc, it is only an offence if the car is sold without disclosing the facts to the buyer.....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,940 ✭✭✭maxwell smart

I see its €1000 to clock ,(ahem), correct the mileage an F50;), and no McLarens on the price list, they leave one huge market open and close themselves to another!

Why would anyone what to do this other than to get a better price for their car and con some poor devil outta money ?

I wonder why all the garages that use them don't have links on the website !

Adjusting the distance is not a crime as there are legit reasons for doing it (like dropping in a milometre from a different car) selling on without disclosure is the crime.

In fairness, that's about the only legit reason, and it's hardly a common enough one to keep this crowd in business.

    From www-dot-mileage correction-dot-ie
We can do Computer and visual check of speedometer and car brain.

Dave: Have you been clocked, HAL?
HAL: I'm sorry Dave, I can't answer that.

    Sorry - just couldn't resist!

I think the funniest part is that the newer the car the more it costs! Is it just me or does this smack of the more you stand to gain by clocking the car the more they want!

Exactly. My rev counter and MFA was fubared so I had to stick in new clocks. So in the space of an hoour my car went from 72000 miles to 135000 miles.

So I will be having my mileage corrected :)

The ad states "We can do ALL NEW GOLF MK6, PASSAT CC, AUDI A3 2009 WITHOUT REMOVING DASHBOARD "

I wonder is it that easy to do other makes or are VAG's especially vunerable

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,688 ✭✭✭✭mickdw

All makes are easy since digital mileage came in. There are some valid reasons but not many and Im sure the majority of his work is not of the "correction" variety

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,023 ✭✭✭Barr

Its crazy that you dont even have to remove the dash - the manufaturer should be trying to make clocking more difficult rather than easier!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,924 ✭✭✭Nforce

Yep there's software available that'll allow "mileage correction" through the vehicle's OBDII port.

Its better tbh. It only takes 5 mins to take out a set of clocks, but theres always a chance of something getting broken. If they are going to clock it they will either way.

I'd have to disagree , I think if someone had to open the dash , take out the clocks and then there’s the risk the numbers could look crooked as opposed to connecting to a OBDII port for 2 minutes .Its too easy

on a digital display, how does that work?

I was talking about the non digital clocks there :) as opposed to the digital

But the cars where you don't have to remove the dash are all digital. to clock an analogue one you have to take the dials out. all the cars listed by you Golf, Passat etc use digital dials, most cars form the last 10 years do.

But your complaint was its crazy that they dont even have to take out the clocks. You mentioned nothing about analogue clocks.

The misalligned thing is a bit of a myth anyway

No its just that all the cars being imported are VAG products and they all need digital recalibration when they arrive here :D

Like the way all Jap imports need the mileage realligned to 50k when they arrive here.:)

Should have made my point clearer - I was just saying with the non digital at least there was abit of effort involved compared to digital correction where it can be done through a port.

I edited the links to the particular site as I don't think we should encourage them by boosting their search engine rankings

Dont know if you remember the height of the jappos but it used to be silly down on the docks. Lines of cars and for some reasons 94 Civics for example all had 35km and 95 Camry diesels all had 60km and so on and so on. it wasnt like some of them were realligned , ALL of them had some correction work :D...............and its probably fair to say still are

Look, you should never buy a car (of any value) without a service history. simple as that.
Especially not a Passat diesel or 320d/530d from the UK.

I have a problem with that, namely the seach engines will bring up the site, and not this discussion. This discussion possibly contains material that people should be aware of.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,520 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

any arguments for or against this particular company relate to any mileage correction company. Anyone actually looking for the company is intending to use them and you can take it that they know what they are doing is wrong. I think the main benefit this thread can have is to educate buyers out there as to the importance of verifyable mileage,

By having the link within a thread regarding the service will boost the links search engine rankings, but not necessarily the thread.
