Hi I've been reading the thread below about having them taken out, but how do you know you have them?
I have a pain where my jaw hinge (if you call it that?) would be on the left and it started off a week ago and got worse day by day and now i can't open or close my jaw fully.
I'm just not sure if it is wisdom teeth or something wrong with the actual jaw? Its just hard to know do you go to doctor or dentist in this situation??
I had the same pain on the other side a couple weeks ago but it went away...

it's a dental problem so go see dentist asap. probably is wisdom teeth if you are in your teens or early 20s

the fact they are hurting doesn't always mean they have to be removed so no point worrying about it till you are sure

+1. Mine hurt like a mother******* for a couple of weeks while they "sprouted". I didn't need to get them taken out.

I never had any problems with wisdom teeth - does everyone grow them, and are they always sore?

No, but usually there is some discomfort.

Very common for a person to be missing naturally one or more of the wisdom teeth (I myself only have 3). If there is room for them to come up the there is usually no problem (some gum tenderness as they break through). If there is no room or they come up crooked then you get them jammed into the tooth in front or jaw bone behind and they stay half erupted, this can cause problems.

Best advice as always is to see you dentist.

I think this has happened me. Part of my wisdom tooth has grown over the tooth in front. It has caused no pain however and was just at a checkup recently and dentist didn't mention anything about it. Shoul I go back and enquire about this?

What do you mean exactly when you say part of your wisdom tooth has grown over the tooth in front?. I assume you mean that the crown of the wisdom tooth seems to be facing towards the back wall of the tooth in front?. Has the whole tooth erupted or is some of it still under the gum?. If so, then it is impacted, but if its not causing you any problems and you just visited your dentist, I wouldnt be panicking about it. You may suffer problems with it in the future though, so make sure you are keeping it clean, and brushing the tooth and the gum with a soft toothbrush!! If it is impacted, it may become a food trap, and become infected, so proper hygiene in the area is important.
:D:o(Mind you, seeing as your dentist didnt mention anything, maybe the tooth is erupting without any problems, and there may be enough room for it, so you may have no problems at all. )

Most of the tooth has grown on the gum but one small part has grown over the tooth in front (it's like a little mini tooth). Thanks for advice, will keep an eye on it and bring it up at my next dental appointment. Am going to an orthodontist next week to see about getting braces so he might have a look then to see.

Yeah mention to the orthodontist that you are worried about it. He/She will have a look. If there isnt enough room for it, the orthodontist may recommend having it extracted anyway.

I've had mine since I was a child, the dentist was ridiculously shocked when he saw them. Maybe that's why i had to have 2 teeth at the front extracted, as my mouth was too small for wisdom teeth back then. Only thing annoying me at the moment is the left side is a bit sore but that is due to some loose skin/flesh thing or something, dunno how to describe it. I don't know what it is. Only sore to touch with hand/tongue.
