Lights controlled by revolutions of wheel

Hey, i have a big metal wheel like the one on winning streak. I want to get a 3 bulb light box for underneath it. After the first revolution the first light turns (and stays) on. The same things happens for the second and third revolutions and all three lights stay on until the would be turned off manually.

Any ideas on how to do this??

Lots of ways to do this, do you want to make something or buy something??

how much have you got to spend?

What sensor are you going to use to pick up the wheel rotations?

You could just cascade 3 flip-flops and every time the pulse comes in from the sensor picking up the rotation, it will clock a signal to the next stage. Then drive 3 relays off the 3 flipflop outputs and robert is your mothers brother!

Or maybe something like this from RS would do:-

Well your not going to get exactly what you need off the shelf...

I'd say the simplest way of doing it is to get one of the little logic relays:-

Then just implement a counter with a input to re-set it and you should be good to go. You'll probably have to read the manual and look up some examples, but shouldn't take too long...

you could buy an arduino and just use it as a counter
