    Hi,

Woke up this morning to a very loud and different sounding jet engine. Looked out and it was high enough and to me looked like a fighter jet taking off eastbound. Anybody know what the craic was with this plane?

Don't know for sure but it maybe another french Alphajet. They are regular visitors to Baldonnell.

Around 10 am? I heard a loud noise in D24*, sounded like a fighter jet rather than a civilian plane, looked up but it was gone! Maybe that mythical Aer Corps F16 has been delivered! :P :D

*I hear loud noises in D24 a lot, most of them come from 4-wheeled things with bad spoilers & hole in the exhaust ;)

FAF6410 and FAF6411 departed Baldonnel around 0930 routing direct to RAF Valley.

FAF6412 departed at 0945 on the same route and FAF6413 went after.

    Alpha Jets indeed.

Spotted it this morning. Was gone before 1230 when I got back. Damn bumpy taxi ruined my shot, I have a long grey blur near the tower.

    Ok...am:p

An Alpha Jet is a light jet attack and advanced trainer aircraft co-manufactured by Dornier of Germany and Dassault-Breguet of France.

Over 480 have been built. Very successful aircraft indeed and also the primary aircraft in use with the French Airforce Display Team The "Patrouille de France".

    Hope that helps.

I heard two of these when I was in France. The first one woke me up and when the second one passed I thought someone was outside with a digger banging on the ground. A few days after one passed over head, couldn't get over the loudness of it! It went passed too fast for me to get a good photo.

They are noisey little buggers considering they do not have re-heat/afterburners, even louder still when flying slow with flaps and airbrake deployed.

Good catch.......my own shots were crap as the sun dazzled the camera. Love the hint of sideslip as it approached.
