    Hi Guys ,

Just wondering if any of the golfers here have ever had a broken wrist ? I broke mine on Monday and while i thought i'd be back playing in a few weeks , Internet research is telling me it could be anything from 4 months to a year . I have been told that there is a minor break in both bones of my arm/wrist and am seeing a specialist tommoro . Any advice would be appreciated ,

    Cheers

    MS

With that kind of injury mate your better off taking your time. You could cause more damage to it if its not 100% so take you time and see how it goes.

take your time man, nothing worse than coming back early, look at the long term picture frustrating as it may be time will pass

maybe you can put a bit of time into practising putting if its not too hard on you, have had ankle and knee injuries before diferent i know but make sure you are well healed before you let it rip

    Wait till fully recovered.

Could do some serious damage hitting out of heavy rough or even taking a big divot.

    Not worth the risk

Thanks for all the replies . I was hoping for a few more along the lines of 2-3 weeks you'll be grand :) But hey ,have to be realistic.
On the plus side for you guys , its sure to be a great summer now that i'm not able to play :D

I'd take it easy. Start slowly by chipping and putting.

Then try to hit a small bucket of balls at the driving range.......but if it's sore then stop.

Try a couple of holes but stop if it's sore.

You need to build up your muscles again as they have been unused for a while.

Be careful with hard ground, deep rough or the hard mats at driving ranges.

I'd be especially careful of heavy rough for a while.

The last thing you want is to hurt yourself again.

Yeah, I feel your pain man. I've got bruised ribs at the moment (self diagnosed) and its a killer. I'm playing through pain and probably shouldn't.

I afraid that I'll develop some gammy swing while compensating for the pain...but its not like my swing is perfect or anything!! :)

listen to all the advice on this thread imo. I broke mine badly in march 2007. Have a plate in there. Played off 8 when i done it. Waited 6 months for a game, no practice and i've never had any form back. I didn't look after it properly whilst recovering and was constantly getting a ganglion cyst on my wrist. Sometimes during a round. I subsequently fell out of love with the game and haven't played in 10 months. Do all exercises that your told and ease back in gently. Hopefully you won't go down my road. All the best.

I had quite a badly broken left wrist about 8 years ago, it was in the middle of winter so not too bad but I was in various casts for nearly 2 months and it wasn't really right for a couple of months after that. Take it easy.

I still feel it the odd time but it doesn't affect my golf at all.

I broke both the bones in my right arm in november and it greatly affected the turning in my hand (supernation and pronation) so im after going through the worst spell of golf I evere had. Your going to have to take your time, very important and do any weights programmes your specialist tells you as when your wrist is broken the lack of use in it will reduce the strength in it, I now have pins and plates in my arm so they had to cut straight the muscles in my arm which left my right arm weaker than my left. (im a rightie)

Most important thing i can tell you is take your time and start slowly back with the likes of putting first just to give you the sense that your back practicing then move onto short chips and so on so forth,
If i take a big divot sometimes, I get terrible pains in my arm still for a bit so really do take your time and get some physio also as If its a very bad break you could lose a bit of mobility.
