    Hi there,

I know its a bit early to ask this question but I was looking to meet up with someone who either has a deer hunting license or is engaged with the NPWS cull in Co. Wicklow. I have a serious interest in how the animal was used by primitive people. Thus I was hoping to engaged with someone who is willing to help.

I have experience hunting but only small game such as rabbit with a standard .22 I was hoping to meet someone who knew a bit about butchery, tanning and knowledge of the species themselves but to be honest just to get out there would be an education. Any direction or assistance would be appreciated.

Not sure about other syndicates but our one won't allow it, I can't even bring family or friends on a hunt. Those are the rules for our syndicate, insurance would be a factor as well.

sounds like a load of crap, we can bring who we like as long as its just the nominated stalkers gun and no other guns, how do you get heavy stags back to the vehicle from long distances?
wouldnt be bringing anybody anywhere without insurance

Well my intention is not to be engaged in the stalk itself or anywhere near the weapon. I simply wish to assist tracking and dealing with the carcass. I figured anyone stalking would appreciate the help. I can hunt on my own time. I just wish to learn from someone who has had experience stalking deer and using the animal as much as possible.

I will approach the NPWS directly if I have no luck here. On the forums though, I get to directly contact you guys.

Well, I have to go by the rules. Lifting is not an issue as there are normally two members.

Crapbag, I may be able to help you in your quest. Send me a PM with a phone number and i will give you a call. Allow a few days for me to respond as I am reasonably busy with work. On a related topic there was an article in the British Deer Society magazine a while back about how stone age man butchered deer. There was some manner of an outing in wicklow where people from some history department in UCD demonstrated how flint tools were used to process deer. They were supplied some culled deer and went to work with flint tools. results were cooked up if i remember correctly.

    Hi,
I have tried to send a PM but not sure if I 'm doing it correctly. I will be stalking in the north west from the 1st of Sep onwards. I usually hunt with 1 or 2 other friends, but if you want/can joins us I'm sure 1 other will not be a problem!
If your still interested then please get back to me and we'll see what we can arrange.
On a slightly diffrent note - as you mention bushcraft in your title, do you have any contact connection with the Irish Bushcraft Club?
    Take care, talk soon,

    Hey,

Thats great, I have returned your PM. Yes I am involved with the Irish Bushcraft Club.

We have some of our members very interested in tracking. We are hoping to run some tracking days coming into autumn. Im hoping to get experience with hunters in all aspects of what they do, not just the hunting. To be honest, I dont even need to be near the rifle when I go out

Ok ive had relative success with this thread so im gonna bump it up since we are in cull season now. I have got out once or twice with various members in relation to this but figured I would renew my request as we are in culling season now. I would really like to go out on a stalk with someone with a bit of experience, If you wish to know more about what I do see here

    Hey Guys,

Im just gonna bump this one up again. Id love to get out with a Deer stalker. It would be a nice skills barter. I would love to share my own experience of bushcraft with anyone who would have me along. With the weather starting to improve, im sure you're all itching to get out

I will be asking the NPWS directly also
