Apologies if this is the wrong forum etc - Mods pls feel free to move/amalgamate....

We are about half way through a renovation/extension in Cork city. We employed an architect to help us through the whole process (plans, planning app and project managing the job.) He's pretty good - and hasn't mentioned this to us before now.

Out of the blue, we received an invoice from Cork City Council for 'Development Contributions' of €2800.

My brief research sofar has found a doc on the Cork city www saying extensions to the family home are exempt. Does anyone know anything about these 'Development contributions', and do they apply to extensions to the family hone (our only residence).

    Thanks!

Extensions are exempt from the Development Contribution Scheme. However PA's have been known to apply them at times and they also apply the wrong amounts for new single house developments also - well at least in Donegal they do.

Edit; Just had a look at their scheme and you will see under Section 1.7 on page 8 of their Development Contribution Scheme that extensions to the family home are indeed exempt.

So you can tell them to put that in their pipe and smoke it :D
