I have a friends iphone 3g which was on 2.2.1 and unlocked with a rebel sim. We updated to 3.0 tonight and the itunes wont recognize the sim anymore.

Trying to downgrade to 2.2.1 again. is that the right thing to do?

    Any help would be great.

    Go here.
    Ultra's Now!
Ultrasn0w for iPhone 3G is ready!

Ensure you have upgraded to iPhone OS 3.0
Jailbreak your iPhone 3G using redsn0w or PwnageTool (this will also install Cydia/Icy)
    Run Cydia or Icy
Please add the repo repo666.ultrasn0w.com to Cydia or Icy. That last “o” is actually the number zero “0”! If you use the letter “o” you’ll get an error.
Search for ‘ultrasn0w’ in cydia or icy and install ultrasn0w
    Reboot your iPhone 3G
T-Mobile USA users should disable 3G before using ultrasn0w
    Enjoy
Just follow these and you can unlock 3.0

    Worked:)

I thought because we had updated to 3.0 and it had locked his phone again we would have to downgrade the firmware.

Jailbreak and Ultrasn0w worked a charm.

    Thanks again fella.

even if this was the case you can not downgrade the baseband firmware, so if ultrasn0w wasn't released you would not have an unlock
