Half yearly Boards Awards?

Since we're pretty much at the half way point of the year I thought it might be nice to have a mini-awards vote. Performance of the season so far (OTSSF, to save my typing!), poster OTSSF, athlete OTSSF, Thread OTSSF, event OTSSF, that kind of thing.

If you think it's a good idea let me know on here and if it's a goer I can collect nominations by PM. I'll pick 3 or 4 per category and pop up a private poll (one where people can't see which way you voted) for the various categories. Just a bit of fun and no cash prizes!

And if you can think of other categories post on here too

CLARIFICATION!!! By athlete I meant Boards poster athlete, teh contributor who you think is athlete of teh half year. Might overlap with the performance of teh year but we'll see. The elite athlete stuff Tingle has pretty much under control in teh other thread, this is just about us mortals!

+1 i think this is a great idea especially with the increase in activity at moment and may even bump old threads and get them going again

Ahhh, don't be mean to poor Geld! It's Of The Season So Far...!

Fair enough so, we can think about giving it a lash. I have one vote in already but categories are all for teh year to date (Jan to now):

Boards Performance of the season so far: Which poster has clocked up the best race / tri performance of teh year? Could be a team or an individual.

Poster: Who's been the best poster of the year? Who gives the best advice but also looking at things like community involvment, getting people involved and bringing in new ideas

Athlete: May overlap with the Performance award but maybe not. Which Boardsie has really impressed you this year. I'd like to look at the whole package - training, racing, dedication, attitude. Doesn't have to be someone fast or a race winner - someone further down the field who's making progress is just as much a candidate.

Thread: What's been the best thread so far? Lots of candidates for this

Event: What's been teh standout event for you so far this season?

Drop me a PM with your nominations in this category before Friday and I'll whittle them down to a shortlist of 3 - 5 per category and we can vote next week If you can give a short reason why then that will help as well as I might not know all of the details. HM / Tingle, if you want to help with the shortlisting let me know!

Apologies but I probably won't be able to answer tegh nomination PMs. I'm not being rude, I normally answer them all but I think I might get too many...

You can nominate yourself / your own threads / your own performances.

Please if you are nominating someone tell me why - if you think Joe Bloggs is athlete of teh year please give a few words saying what they've done that makes them so good!

can we have a silly one as well. Stupidest thing comical moment OTSSF? examples would be things like Robinph's babe pic or Enduro turning up at a race without his trainers....

Could there also be "Worst" OTSSF.
As in worst Race performance, worst preparation for a race, worst advice etc.
And seeing as you say that we can nominate ouerselves..........:rolleyes:

Best Race Report?
I love reading them and there have been some brilliant ones. The moment where ( was it RoadRunner) overtook Batman and Spiderman, or some such superheroes, in the london Marathon springs to mind

I can think of a stand-out candidate for who got most lost during a race and ended up practically running a marathon instead of a half marathon.. Could be a few candidates actually.

I turned up at my first half marathon without my shorts.

A kind guy in a car park donated a spare pair to me. I'm only 5ft 4 so ended up running the race in a pair of shorts that went from armpit to knee.
