Different tyres on front and back - is it ok?

This may be a stupid/obvious question but I've got a race on Saturday and need to know the answer.
Went in to road verge last weekend out training and tore my front Schwalbe Ultremo.
Can't get Schwalbe Ultremo in Waterford and was just wondering what if I were to put a Continental GP4000 on the front tyre and leave the Ultremo on the back.
Is this a stupid thing to do?
Should I just put up with an old Vittorio Rubino tyre I have for one race and order the other Ultremo for later?
Does it say somewhere that you shouldn't mix tyres?

As long as they're colour-coordinated you might just survive.

God no, the tyres will explode if you do that.

It's a fashion faux pas and deeply non-Euro but then I often have mismatched wheels never mind tyres so I think you might just be OK. The main worry is that you will be so concerned by how your bike looks that you will lose concentration at a vital juncture and crash (happened to me when I mixed Ultremos with GP4000s, but I had them the other way around so you could be fine.)
