My friend is having major problems with all recording software all of a sudden on a toshiba laptop running XP. Nero, ashampo burning software and the toshiba software keeps coming up with "No compatible recorder found". All was working fine till yesterday. I have ran out of idea's, like burning rights, drivers etc.

    Any help appreciated.

It seems to read and play discs fine and the drive is there in "My computer"

I've had some problems before with this type of thing. Did the DVD drive ever work with Nero? Or have you upgraded Nero recently?

Download this free DVD/CD burner to see if can burn successfully. If it can, then you know that there is nothing wrong with the drive.

Post the error that you are getting with Nero. Also, do you have a 3g datamodem or anything like that plugged in, as they can be known to conflict with DVD burners.. I know mine does.

I had a problem like this with a Dell, what was actually happening in the end was that the Drive was disconnecting, I had to pull it out and plug it back in every now and again when I got the error and it worked fine.
