Hi... Long time poster here but I'm going alias on this forum as I'm very early days..

Basically, I'm wondering is it safe to take a laxitive? I'm in the first trimester and in a bad way  I've slept really badly the past few nights because of this..

    Anyone?

    Cheers :)

Hi Baby on Boardz!! Good name... I had an alias in this forum for the first 3 months too!! A few mates post and I hadn't told em at that stage, its great to be able to ask Qs here, as all the experienced pregger bellies are more than happy to help!
Anyhow... I'm over the 7 month mark now and I have a few suggestions for you to try... I'd be inclined to ask you GP before the lax option anyway to be on the safe side... the first 3 months are crucial re avoiding stuff that might be unsafe, after that you don't need to be so uber careful... (although eveyone has their own opinions etc)
I suffered from your complaint early on too... for an immediate relief try Prune juice, lots of it, and see what happens. But for the longer term I found out that taking 2 large spoons of crushed flaxseed/linseed in the morning with breckie has really helped. I decied to take it as I'm a veggie and it has omega in it, which I don't get as readily in my diet, but then realised a happy accidental benefit is 'regular movemets' too!! (I know tmi!) its yuck but I wash them down with an actimel and it really has worked a treat for me... wow long post better get back to work! Hope it helps! :D

Agree with the prune juice, Try a bowl of bran flakes every day for breakfast, and try to stick to brown bread and brown pasta.Fibre, fibre fibre. Sorry thats all I can think of !

Oh I'm dying to know who you are lol! Hurry up and let us know :p

As above, try prune juice, orange juice also... the iron tablets used to make me severely constipated and the midwife said take it with orange juice and it should counteract the effects!!

I'm glad to hear I'm not alone :o
I've been trying weetabix, peanuts, gallons of water, bunches of grapes but nothings happening!
I hate it but I think I'll have to resort to the prune juice :(

Hi all, being the mother of two I suffered severe constipation thoughout both pregnancies...when all the food options have been exhausted then there are two other medically very safe avenues to go down......1) Fibrogel, you get these in any chemist, they come in sachets and you dissolve them in water and drink. They are good but just not that tasty. 2) My personal favourite is Lactulose (has many trade names). Again just ask chemist, its an over the counter stuff. You just take 10ml twice a day to start, its sticky & sugary to taste. This worked wonders for me and its completely safe. Hope this helps you all! Good luck.

Please do mention this to you dr as it could be not just a pregnancy related issue and adjusting your diet should help and if you do buy an over the counter remdy check with the chemist and tell your dr at your next check up.
