Well I rung 123.ie and did the firm and assertive thing and only managed to get them down 40 euro...Im fairly disgusted and would appreciate advice on this .
Im 38 but only am coming to the end of only my first years no claim bonus in my own name .I have around 15 years named driver experience though and have had a full irish licence for nearly all that time.I live in Kildare near Dublin border .
I was happy with my 329 comprehensive cover on my 2007 one litre last year but now the best Im being quoted for renewal is 492 and they claim they are forfeiting their 40 euro admin fee at that !
As I said I did the whole disgusted routine on the phone ,I even have 3 other insurance policies via them but they were not going any lower .Ive tried the online quote system of FBD and its no better .
The staff member claimed that I got a big ('introductory')discount with my 15 years named driver experience but that as I now had 'ONLY' one years NCB in my own name it was a lot dearer. This sounds like utter BS to me ....Has insurance really gone up that much or do you have to get on to the office manager and rant and rave to get a fair price?Do they really think we are fools ?(Ok dont have to answer that last one ,pretty obvious!)

I was with Quinn last year. 21 year old, had an accident the year before which led to a big claim. Went out under my own name for the first time, which cost me 2500e for the year, fully comp on a 04 1.4 Focus.

Called Axa last week and got a quote for 1650e. Couldnt be happier! It'l be interesting to see what Quinn say all the same.

That doesn't sound right to me. If they (rightly) gave you an intro discount last year, they placed you somewhere on their No Claim Bonus scale. If you've done nothing to lose that position, you can only have added to it.
Under regulations by the Financial Regulator, everyone has to receive a copy of their NCB weeks in advance of the renewal date, even if the renewal terms are not ready. What does yours say???

It says "NO Claims Discount -1year -15%-point on scale -1 "

In my experience, to only method insurers have of giving you an introductory discount is placing you somewhere on the NCB ladder. I have never heard of one taking it away after the 1st year.
Other insurers will still allow you more than 1yrs discount if you tell them you have 15 yrs named driver experience an 1yr in your own name, with no gap in the cover.
I'd still try and (politely) question that with your existing insurers. That dammed insurance computer often makes silly mistakes, nothing to do with the person loading the data of course:)

Try AA insurance. A minimum of 1 year NCD is needed before they'll quote but they act as brokers for a few less mainstream insurance companies so you might get a better quote. Will do not harm to check it anyway.

I'm blue in the face saying it at this stage - SHOP AROUND!! Not just online quotes either, you need to ring a wide selection of ins cos & brokers. Think about it - why would the manager entertain your ranting when you don't have a cheaper quote elsewhere?

Always shop around. I got my insurance down from €800 of with 123.3 to around €700 with insure.ie. Was with them 2 years, and renewal was €600 odd a month ago. Moved to britton and got my insurance down to €350! Im 27, 4 years NCB. Insurance on the other car is only €340, so €700 for 2 cars insured isint bad (2nd car is with First Ireland).

    Hi all,

I had a small third party claim last during after taxi door opened as I was passing with resulting damage to my car. Nobody injured, but a big ding in door of my car. I sought advice from AA, my insurance broker, on how to proceed as I had maximum NCD and wanted to keep it that way. The Taxi driver ( his passenger really ) was at fault and admitted liability. I followed up with his insurers and the repair to my car was processed through his insurers (AXA).

On receipt of renewal notice, I note that NCD is back at 30% and number of years claim free on my policy with Zurich has been reduced to zero.

Does this make sense? Have my insurers made an error or is the claim made against the taxi drivers insurance something that has affected my own No Claims history.

I am going to take this up with my own insurers when they open on Monday, but am I missing something about how insurance operates ?

once you report a claim your ncb is stepped back. if the claim is settled with no payments from your insurance, your ncb is reinstated. If any payments are made from your insurance your ncb will remain stepped back (unless you have ncb protection or some other policy benefit)

    Thanks for this info.

I should be able to get this step back corrected as it makes €200+ difference (by my calculation) on renewal premium quoted.
