Can Padraig win 3 Opens in a row?

In light of Padraig's recent performances, with particular emphasis on his bottom 20 finish in the US Open I'm becoming worried that he wont be in contention come the Open Championship. He's in a position now to achieve something exceptional considering 3 in a row has only been achieved by one player in the last 120 or so years. It would be such a shame to see him miss another cut again as twice defending champion. His form this weekend however was quite worrying. Do people believe 4 weeks is enough for him to turn this season's slump in form around?

I think Padraig can turn it all around....he is too good not to......i struggle to believe how badly he is playing at the moment and if you listen to his interview wit greg allen on the rte website it sounds very worrying as he seems happy enough working away on faults etc......i believe he has lost his feel/confidence/ability to score and get it around.....something he was brilliant at as he was always known as a scrambler.........he can come out of it but must relax in the pursuit of perfection.......paryalsis by analsis!!!!!!!!!!!! he would admit he thinks/fiddles around way too much......but i hope he can and believe he will as he is mentally so strong
COME ON PADRAIG....WE ARE RIGHT BEHIND YOU AND WILL BE IN TURNBERRY TO ROAR YOU ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Turnberry could well sort him out and get him back playing his natural game!

I really can't see where it's going to come from. After watching him the past few weeks i'd say he'll be doing well to make the cut.

Of course he can - golf is a funny game.
But it is extremely unlikely. His form has dipped seriously, and two majors aside (I know, two majors does excuse anything), its not that it was really that hectic overall last year either.
Hoping he does get it back, it really would be something to win 3 in a row (Peter Thomson the last???), but I wouldnt put any money on him.

what puzzles me is if you look at how he scrambled in round 2 of the US Open he made some ridiculous pars from almost impossible positions. This proves the guy still has his touch and his dogged fight yet if he is that good in these positions why the hell is he finding himself out of position on most holes. I think his driver has really failed him of late but he is a master and knows whats best for his game...it will come good

I do think we should get behind him more and not be so quick to criticise what he has achieved already is more than anyones wildest dreams...he is a living legend and I feel will win more !!

    Very true indeed.

What I dont understand is his need to change his swing. I never understand why somebody feels a need to change a winning formula. If it aint broke dont fix it!

Dont think anyone is criticising him or playing down what he has achieved - just recognising that his game has been well below major winner level for the last 9 months.

Maybe he won and wasnt fully confident in his game in the first place, it does happen. I agree if its not broke dont fix it but he feels the game he has is not enough for the long term and in fairness he should know best

Look how much Tiger Woods won when he burst on the scene and then went and stripped his swing completely as he was not fully convinced with it, At the time he changed he was unbeatable but that wasnt enough for him.

I think we just gotta admire the courage these guy show to strip their game and it proves they aint just hungry for money but actually want to reach the highest possible peak of personal performance

I think the same thing was said last year.....his form was poor before the Open.

However I can't see him winning.

Last year going into the Open he was doubtful because of injury and his odds went out yet he went on to play brilliantly and defied all odds to retain the jug. I think if he were to do the same again it would be bigger again and would be an incredible feat but I cannot see it happening but hey its Padraig Harrington so anything can happen. Best of luck to the man and heres hoping he turns it around. Greatest sportsman this country has ever produced.

Harrington has no chance , making the cut will probably be the height of his achievements

I can't see him winning. His form may not have been great last year before the open but it was miles better then now. I hope I'm wrong but I think the best he can hope for is to make the cut and hope that the swing changes he has made come right sometime towards the end of the season.

Not a chance in hell in my opinion, he's chasing demons in that head of his!

    Can he win? YEP
    Will he win? NOPE

Yeah I can't see him contending either. Hope I'm wrong. One or two of the commentators over the weekend were mentioning him in the same sentence as Michael Campbell and David Duval(his great performance not withstanding). Also on the Examiner website yesterday. I hope he can turn it around and get his consistency back. I'm not really buying the swing changes excuse either.

harringtons biggest strengths were his belief and ability to scramble pars......he seems to have lost belief based on his us open interviews and the scrambling part of his game was only seen on the last six holes of the first round in the US Open....golf is strange and something can click in a week to give you confidence so I would follow him in hope more than expectation

That is true but we all know you can only do this for so long before the high scores start appearing on the card.

I don't think he will win. I wont see any of it because I am away and in the land where internet is very restricted.

Slightly off topic... but do you mean China? Surely they'll be showing it there? Will BBC world news or CNN not have it? Are pgatour.com/europeantour.com blocked?

    I'll be surprised/annoyed if it's not available...
