Manually enabling sky card

Rang Sky today to get sky+ installed wednesday. Thats fine but i wont have my sky card by then. The girl on the phone said i will be able to just ring sky and manually enable the card myself - should only take 5mins. Is this right??

I havent a phone line - will that make it any harder??

Will the channels in "Other Channels" - E.g. ITV2, Five....be on it? Or have they to be tuned in themselves?

Am i better waiting until i have the card to have the installation?

Should I have to pay the Manual Fee of €37.50 when i have to do it myself??

    Hi, dlambirl

I recently got Sky+ HD installed and as far as I know the answers to your queries are as follows:

When you have your card this can be enabled with a call to Sky.

If you have not got a landline and you are taking advantage of one of Sky's special offers you might have problems here.

The other channels you mention are free to air and are not on the Irish EPG. They are obtained on 'other channels' and cannot be recorded on the Sky+ PVR.

You will need your card before installation.

I believe you will still be charged the €37.50 installation fee.

I ordered the Sky in March.. its all paid for so what problems would i have?

I know these channels are free to air - but when my neighbours got their sky installed these channels were already in "Other Channels"..... All i'm asking is, will they be already on mine or will i have to tune them in myself?

The girl on the phone said I wouldnt need it. Why do you say that I will need it??

I KNOW i'll be charged for having no phone line.... I already HAVE been charged for having no phoneline as i said before.

What i want to know is is it necessary to have the sky card when the installer installs the sky+??
I'll cancel it if it is....

if you have a card already ( I take it you do as you already have sky) you dont need to wait for another card.

the other channels will have to be added by yourself.
there is a step by step guide here

or the guy installing the sky+ box will .

No I havent any sky card........its my first time with sky.

I have a sky box cos i got a freesat install there a few weeks ago cos a local windfarm was causing interferance to the tv.

Will not having the sky card be a hassel? Should I cancel the install until i recieve the card?

My neighbouts got sky installed 6 months ago and the sky installer must of tuned in the free to view channels cos they were all on "other channels". Will my installer be able to do that if i havent got my card??

Yes, if your installer is any way competent then he/she will tune in the extra channels for you.
I know that sky had waived the €37.50 man activation fee recently for nll installs, but depending when and who you signed up with this mightn't be the case.
Either way if you're installed before your card arrives then it's a simple procedure to get your card activated, the hardest part being getting through to Sky!

No no, i signed up in March to take advantage of the half price sky+ box and free installation and put it off until i got the free freesat install.

I rang Monday and the next install date was wednesday or next thursday or the following monday so i just thought i'd go for wednesday but was worried then afterwards as to if i'd need the sky card for it to be installed properly.

as kbel said you dont need it. but you wont get the irish channels till you get the card and avtivate it (phone call to sky)

Ah thats grand, once i know the install can be done without it.

And you said that a competent installer should be able to put the FTA channels in the OTHER CHANNELS?

Does anyone know how long the sky cards take to come in the post?? Do they come from Ireland or England??

The cards when we order them, usually take 5 to 10 working days but i've seen them arrive a lot sooner.
If you signed up in March and haven't received a card yet you'd be better off ringing them and chasing up your order.
If you signed up at one of the shops or kiosks then pop back as they'll have your order on file .

I got all of my cards within two days.

i think the reason i didnt get it in march cos i told them it could be a while before i would be looking for it to be installed...

so hopefully should have it within the next couple of days, assuming they sent it monday!

should i have to pay the €37.50 when i have to manually enable it myself??

    Doubt you'll have it soon.
I'd ring them for piece of mind.
If you have to ring them for manual activation, and they ask for the €37.50 fee, tell them when you signed up you got the offer that waived the MI fee, or failing that tell them that you've paid the fee to the kiosk or shop where you've signed up, however this wont apply if you've signed up with them online or direct by phone.
